Question: How does an older person get travel insurance?
(Posted by: John S on 2009-05-19 06:38:33)
I am 65 and find the insurance high for my trip to China in July for the eclipse. I also plan to go to the total solar eclipse in Japan in 2035 when I will be 91. It seems I will not be able to get insurance at all over 70 so how do older people go on holiday? |

What kind of travel insurance do you want? I'm 51, I never purchase travel insurance. If you're talking medical insurance, you need to speek with your local insurance agency. If you live in the USA you can buy supplemental medicare insurance that should also cover you if you were outside the USA . |

The travel companies I deal with when traveling have insurance available through them. I covers the money you have prepaid, up to the departure date. If you get sick on the trip, your regular health insurance, like Medicare may cover any expenses you would incur, but you may be responsible for some of the costs that might not be covered. |

I also don't understand why you need insurance. I am 69 and travel all over the Caribbean on my Boat and in Europe when I'm home in Spain. You can get supplemental insurance that covers you for an AIR AMBULANCE from outside the U.S. back TO the U.S. but, like you said.. once you are past 70 it's hard to even get that coverage. |

Travel insurance? As in "refund for ticket if medically can't go? " or as in "death insurance if the plane crashes? " People have gone on holiday without insurance....why are you so overly concerned about this? |
